After the recent and successful coup d’état that brought Thomas Sankara to power, Burkina Faso is now declared independent from 64 years of French colonial rule. Now, it is up to the new government to carry out President Sankara’s agenda of radical socio economic reforms based in communist ideologies, which are unlike any other policy proposals on the African continent. In response to environmental challenges, women’s rights issues, pressure from foreign nations, and more, how will Burkina Faso maintain Sankara’s ideology and build itself into a flourishing country?
