Letter from the Secretary-General
Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,
It is my great pleasure and honor to invite you to the thirty-sixth annual session of the Model United Nations of the University of Chicago, to be held Thursday, February 8 through Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency in the heart of downtown Chicago. At MUNUC 36, over 3,000 high-school students from across the world will come together to address some of the world’s most pressing issues and take their first steps toward becoming the future leaders of tomorrow.
Nationally recognized for its substantive excellence, MUNUC distinguishes itself through a consistent and unique emphasis on the pedagogical values of discourse and collaboration. We seek to empower our delegates to become confident public speakers, eloquent writers, collaborative debaters, effective critical thinkers, and globally-minded future leaders. It has been, and continues to be, MUNUC’s mission to help high school students from around the world become more active and informed global citizens.
As a collective effort of over 300 college students from the University of Chicago, we pride ourselves on the detailed scope of our myriad simulations. Each of our thirty committees this year focuses on a unique topic, ranging from diverse historical time periods to complicated modern-day issues, where delegates will gain a more nuanced understanding of the capabilities and limitations of international diplomacy. Furthermore, each student receives constructive feedback to advance their growth as delegates, and as people, from our slate of experienced MUNUC Executives running our committees.
Registration for MUNUC 36 will open on May 1, 2023, with confirmation following within one week of your registration. A full timeline of our key dates can be found below. You can find additional details concerning logistics, including our fee timeline, robust financial aid programs, and venue under the Conference tab of our website.
For over thirty-six years, MUNUC has been an exceptional and momentous experience for students from across the world. Whether this would be your school’s inaugural trip to MUNUC or its thirty-sixth, we are so excited to welcome you to Chicago next February, and to help the next generation of leaders learn and grow. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or to our Administrative team.
Secretary-General, MUNUC 36
“I love Chicago and enjoy giving students the experience of visiting the city, but I would never take them 1,000 miles unless the quality of the conference justified it. MUNUC continues to justify the expense, the travel-related stress, and the extra work.”
“The background guides were very helpful — as a more experienced member, they were very convenient when helping the younger members of our club research and form opinions on the topics.”
