Letter from the Secretary-General

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

On behalf of our Executive Committee and staff, I am incredibly honored to welcome you to the thirty-ninth annual Model United Nations of the University of Chicago conference, to be held from Thursday, February 18th to Sunday, February 21st, 2027, at the Hilton Chicago in the heart of downtown Chicago.

For the past 38 years, MUNUC has been internationally recognized for its distinctive approach to debate. By holding pedagogy as our core value, we encourage delegates to build their public speaking and collaboration skills in a supportive environment, while giving them the tools and resources they need to become confident public speakers, engaging leaders, and the best human beings they can be. We are committed to ensuring that the over 3,000 delegates attending MUNUC 39 can flourish in an environment where thoughtful discourse sets the standard for fruitful cooperation. This year, we have allocated over $40,000 to financial aid to ensure that students of all backgrounds are able to attend conference and are providing rigorous training on moderating substantive debate to all of our over 300 University of Chicago staffers.

Our members are dedicated to ensuring a positive delegate experience. MUNUC 39 will feature thirty-three committees, with topics ranging from the Empire of Trebizond, 1204, to the impact of smart cities on modern-day societies. This range of topics reflects our desire to allow each delegate to fully explore the breadth and depth of the region of world history that they are interested in while immersing themselves in substantive debate regarding the trials and tribulations of the time period. Throughout conference, our experienced committee executives will provide individualized delegate feedback to ensure each participant is able to fully take advantage of the weekend to grow intellectually and personally.

Whether this is your first or thirty-ninth year of attending MUNUC, my Administrative Team and I are committed to making your school’s experience an unforgettable one. Registration for MUNUC 39 will open on May 1st, 2026, with the full timeline of our key dates displayed below.
