The year is 1981 and the future of a new nation—The Senegambian Confederation—is at stake. You are a part of the newly established Confederate Cabinet and will be responsible for building the agreement that underpins a fragile union between the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Gambia.
As a result of their colonial history, Senegal, a former French colony, and The Gambia, a former British colony, share an interesting geopolitical border: The Gambia, which runs alongside the river Gambia, is almost completely surrounded by Senegal (it looks like PacMan drawn with your non-dominant hand). Factions within both governments, and their former colonial administrators, were interested in the formation of a union between the two countries. Their efforts came to fruition with the formation of the Senegambian Confederation. The Confederation afforded both nations a considerable degree of autonomy; both countries would maintain separate governments but unite their militaries, economies and monetary systems under the Senegambian Confederate Cabinet.
From military disagreements, to trade barriers, a thriving smuggling circuit, and an underground economy, delegates will have to find a way to balance their conflicting interests. Delegates will take on various roles within the Confederate Cabinet—ranging from military leaders, to politicians and colonial representatives—each with their own personal goals and visions. They will experience a mix of traditional and crisis elements: first collaborating to create a constitution which satisfies the various conflicting interests of each cabinet member, and the Senegambian people at large. The newly-established constitution will face trials and tribulations as a series of crises unfold which threaten the integrity of the state, but give delegates the opportunity to build resources and angle the committee in their favor. Will Senegambia become a great nation, or will disagreements spell its ruin? The future of this nation depends on the actions of each delegate and the debates that shall ensue. Good luck!
